Prince Vegeta, is a fictional character in the Dragonball series. He is a member of the royal family of planets Vegeta, Frieza and Bulma. His name comes from his original Planet Vegeta, which is located in space. In the series, Vegeta is a foul and mean spirited Saiyan warrior who is a rival of Goku and his fellow Saiyans. Vegeta was born on planet Vegeta and was said to be the son of King Vegeta, however his identity is not revealed. As such, it is left up to the viewer’s interpretation to fill in the blanks.
It should also be noted that Vegeta is supposed to be of Asian descent. The truth of the matter is that Vegeta is played by the Japanese voice actor, Christopher Sabat. This is because, according to an interview with Michael McDonough, the English voice actor (albeit a little late in his career) provided the most accurate performance of any of the Dragonball voice actors. It is because of this reason that fans might know of Vegeta as Christopher Sabat.
What about his eleven Dragonball voices? Well, according to an interview with Mike McDonough, who has worked on the Dragonball anime voice acting project, he has indeed supplied the voice actor for eleven different characters. This includes Vegeta, Goku, Piccolo, Gohan, Tien Shinhan, Krillin, Hit Chi Goku, Frost-pi, Fusions Trunks, Tio Rin, Etc. The above list contains all of the main and most popular characters of the Dragonball franchise. There are twelve more not listed here.
One of the things which make Vegeta so popular is his strong loving relationship with his son, Goku. He has a profound respect for the young boy and his ability to defeat evil forces with absolute power. In fact, Vegeta is so proud of his son’s success that he vows to train him in order to be as powerful as his son. Thus, it is a noble cause for Vegeta to become a voice actor.
One of the best things about Vegeta’s voice is that he actually has two distinct voices, though they are very similar in nature. In one episode of Dragonball, Vegeta (with English voice talentppings) was heard speaking in a British accent. In another episode, he was heard speaking in a more heavy-duty Japanese accent. While fans may see these accents as belonging to different characters of the series, it is actually a mistake for an English voice actor to try to give two different impressions of the same character.
Vegeta is also voiced by Nozawa, who is a Japanese-American actor. Vegeta is one of the most well known Saiyans of all of the series, because he is both very strong and kind. Because of this, Nozawa’s voice is often a great match for his role, because he captures both the qualities of strength and kindness with equal proficiency. Nozawa’s unique voice is slightly deeper in tone than Vegeta’s, but it is not completely different. His diction is clear and his pronunciation is pleasant. He is a good fit for Vegeta and makes him one of the most well rounded and realistic supporting characters in Dragonball.
The last voice actor we will discuss is Dr. Goku, who is voiced by Yuichiro Nagashima. In the Japanese release of Dragonball, Dr. Goku was played by Rihoko Yamauchi, and in the English release, the role was handled by Sean Connery.
The truth is that Nozawa is probably better known for his android voice roles, especially among children. However, he has done a good job playing Goku and has also done several other voice roles in both English and Japanese. If you are looking for someone to bring some life and energy to your child’s favorite anime series, consider having Vegeta and Goku voice roles. They will be able to help your little girl or boy identify with the character they are watching even more.
